Stress at work?
A deadline, a difficult conversation, or too many demands at once. Pause to name the pressure and choose how you want to respond.
“You don’t have to make it sound better than it is. Start with what’s true.”
Start with the actual work pressure.
“Work is stressful” may be true, but a more specific description gives you something to respond to. Is the pressure coming from workload, unclear expectations, a relationship, a decision, or responsibilities outside work?
Open Hold the Mirror and consider both questions: How is the professional doing? How is the person behind the role doing? Doing your job well does not mean you have no needs.
Separate a personal step from a workplace change.
Reflection can help you choose your response. It cannot fix an unreasonable workload or unclear authority by itself. Name what you can do, what needs a conversation, and what requires an organizational decision.
- Name the demand: What exactly must be done, by when, and to what standard?
- Clarify the trade-off: If a new task is urgent, which existing priority should move?
- Prepare the conversation: “I can complete A by Friday. To take on B as well, I need a later deadline or support. Which is the priority?”
- Choose your next action: Use Align & Act to decide when you will ask, clarify, prepare, or share the load.
Notice what you carry into the next interaction.
Examine Your Cup lets you name what you are feeling before you respond to a colleague. Lead Well asks how your own pressure may be affecting the people around you. If you need a quieter moment first, open Make Room.
